Importation of petrol will stop by 2023 - FG

- Nigeria will stop importing petroleum products by 2023

- This was revealed on Friday, December 13, by the group managing director of the NNPC, Mele Kyari

- Kyari said this after signing the the condensate refinery strategy programme front end engineering design

The federal government has fixed 2023 as the year Nigeria, as a top oil-producing nation in Africa and in the world, will stop the importation of petrol.

This came after Mele Kyari, the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Friday, December 13, signed the condensate refinery strategy programme front end engineering design, Channles TV reports.

Kyari explained that the strategy is aimed at delivering about 20 million litres of petrol upon the completion of the design.

The NNPC boss went on to say that President Muhammadu Buhari is not relenting in his effort to ensure that Nigeria leads in the circle of oil-rich countries in Africa.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the federal government had announced the suspension of diesel and petrol supply to filling stations within 20 kilometres radius to all Nigerian borders.

Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, issued the directive in a memo on Thursday, November 6.

The authenticity of the memo was confirmed to Daily Sun by the Customs spokesman, Joseph Attah. He said the directive has been given to all commands through Chidi A, Deputy Comptroller-General enforcement, inspection, and investigation Customs.

The statement partly read: “The comptroller general of Customs has directed that henceforth no petroleum products no matter the tank size is permitted to be discharged in any filling station within 20 kilometers to the border.

“Consequently, you are to ensure strict and immediate compliance please."
