Nigerians see senators as bad people because they hardly understand us - Lawan

- The Senate president has said that Nigerians see lawmakers across the country as bad people

Nigeria's Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, has accused Nigeria's of misunderstanding lawmakers in the National Assembly.

Lawan said many Nigerians see lawmakers especially the senators as bad people because they hardly understand them (the senators).

Stating that the Senate will continue to take up its responsibility by ensuring their actions have positive impressions on Nigerians, Lawan said the Senate will continue to work for the Nigerian populace.

“We are normally seen as bad people because people hardly understand us even though they trust us as we are always elected. This time around we will go further in giving a positive impression that we should give Nigerians and people we represent," Lawan.

Also appreciating Ahmed Kaita for sponsoring a bill to rename Federal Poly Daura after late Senator Mustapha Bukar, Lawan said the late senator was an educationist who was passionate about quality education and improving access to education for the less privileged.

“All of us who interacted with late Bukar know how deep he was, how committed and dedicated he was to a good cause and to this institution of the Senate," Lawan said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that lawmakers of the House of Representatives have commenced moves to separate the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and the Ministry of Justice.

A member and chief whip of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Tahir, while sponsoring the new bill said there is too much power vested on one individual who takes the job as an AGF and minister of justice.
