- The SDP candidate wants a fresh election and the sack of Bello

Natasha Akpoti, candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the recent Kogi governorship election, has taken the winner of the poll, Yahaya Bello, to the petition tribunal.

Akpoti, who alleges that the election was marred in violence, wants Bello sacked by the tribunal.

She joined Mouktar Atimah, Kogi state SDP chairman as second petitioner.

She had earlier threatened to head to the tribunal with a petition because the election was massively dented by incidents of violence, ballot snatching, use of thugs and threat to life.

Nigerian Tribune reports that Akpoti joined the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Edward Onoja, Bello's running mate in the election, in the suit.

The report said Apkoti, a lawyer, wants the tribunal to order a fresh election in the state.

It was learnt that Akpoti went to the tribunal office at 11pm on Sunday, December 8, to complete the signing of all the documents in other to meet the deadline for the commencement of tribunal activities.

In the petition, Akpoti argued that election was not held in Kogi state on November 16.

The lawmaker, who hired Ola Olanipekun, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), wants the election declared null and void. She argues that her name did not reflect in some of the result sheets and that INEC used pen to make the inscriptions.
