Bayelsa election: APC speaks about Dickson's allegation, warns him against causing unrest

- The Bayelsa state branch of the APC has warned the state's governor, Seriake Dickson, to stop heating up the polity

- According to the party, Dickson should explore a legal option in courts if he has any grievance on how his candidate, Doififie Buokoribo, lost in the governorship election

- The party also said that the governor has been trying to make the state chaotic, threatening electorates in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa state branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the state’s governor, Seriake Dickson, to stop causing unnecessary tension following the defeat of his candidate, Senator Douye Diri, in governorship election.

The party said it does not understand why the governor is always in the habit of heating up the polity, asking him to take whatever grievance he has to courts, The Nation reports.

Doififie Buokoribo, the APC’s state publicity secretary, made this known known in a statement he made to caution Dickson’s utterances after Diri’s defeat.

It should be noted the candidate lost in six out of the eight local governments in the state to his opponent, Governor-elect David Lyon.

“In the last few weeks, since the overwhelming victory of our candidate at the November 16 governorship election, Chief David Lyon, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson has inundated the state and, indeed, the country with wild allegations and inciting comments.

“He has screamed blue murder at all relevant institutions of state, from the electoral body to the security agencies, and the winning All Progressives Congress (APC). And he has absolved only himself and his section of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of blame,” he said.

The party also said that the governor has issued threats to the people of the state, saying he would cause great chaos.

APC also said that the governor has never been committed to democratic principles and rule of law in the resolution of electoral conflict.

“From his furious mind, Dickson has issued threats to the electorate in Bayelsa State and APC members, particularly, and he has boasted about his capacity to unleash violence and turn the state upside down.

“Dickson has displayed everything, but commitment to democratic ideals and legal processes of electoral conflict resolution,” he said.
