CUPP seeks sack of DSS operatives who defiled court

- The coalition of United Political Parties have called for the sack of officers who participated in the re-arrest of Omoyele Sowore

- The coalition said the re-arrest of Sowore in a court is treason against Nigeria's constitutional governance

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) on Saturday, December 7, condemned the attack and re-arrest of Omoyele Sowore by some operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) inside a Federal High Court in Abuja.

CUPP described the action of the SSS operatives as treason against Nigeria's constitutional governance.

A statement issued by the party's spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere, in Owerri, Imo state's capital city said the court was utterly desecrated by the DSS operatives.

Ugochinyere also called for the arrest and prosecution of all those who participated in the operation.

“The Nigerian opposition coalition, CUPP, has screamed over the DSS attack on Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu and Mr Omoyele Sowore inside the Federal High Court while the court was in session," Ugochinyere said.

“The arrest of Sowore right inside the courtroom, while the trial was on, is treason against constitutional governance. This attack is the worst level of contemptuous act ever witnessed in Nigeria’s democracy and could not have happened without the express approval and backing of the presidency," the party said.

CUPP also sid that the drama that played out in court on Friday, December 6, has formally announced the total collapse of democracy and constitutionality in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the SSS had on Saturday, December 7, given reasons for arresting Sowore.

The SSS said the publisher of Sahara Reporters' was re-arrested for carrying out acts inimical to national security.

According to the SSS, some individuals were already trying to spread the false narrative that Sowore was arrested in court as a means to organize an insurrection in the country.
