Governor Matawalle places all commissioners, advisers on three-month probation

- Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state places all newly inaugurated cabinet members on a three-month probation

- Matawalle says during the probation period the performance of the appointees will be reviewed

The governor of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle, has said he will place his newly inaugurated cabinet on three-month probation during which their performances would be measured.

Matawalle made the disclosure on Thursday, December 5, when members of his new cabinet comprising 19 commissioners and 28 special advisers took their oath of office, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

“You will be placed on three months’ probation within which your capability and efficiency will be measured. It is, therefore, my hope that you will live above board so that together we move our state to a higher level of development,” he said.

The governor stated that the performances of the appointees will be reviewed quarterly, warning that any form laxity will not be tolerated.

He told members of the public in the state to refrain from distracting the appointees from their official responsibilities through unofficial visits and unnecessary demands.

“The Secretary to the State Government and the Head of Service are to ensure that government offices are adequately secured and public officials discharge their functions as expected without any form of molestation or harassment,” he ordered.

Meanwhile, few days after Governor Matawalle repealed the law which granted bogus allowances to former political leaders in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made its official position known.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the APC which is an opposition party in the state welcomed the governor’s decision and commended him for the bold act.
