Cristiano Ronaldo has indirectly been attacked by his former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric after failing to show up for the 2019 Ballon D'Or ceremony.

Lionel Messi won his sixth award, as Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk came second with his fiercest rival Ronaldo, finishing in third position.

While Messi was receiving his award for the best player for 2019 in Paris, Ronaldo was given the accolade for the best player in Serie A in Milan.

And Modric has seen Ronaldo's attitude as disrespectful saying: “We are rivals but above everything there is respect.

“We have to enjoy football and that is it, like in other sports where there are great athletes who show respect to each other. We have to follow that attitude in football.”

But the 2018 Ballon D'Or winner who broke the duopoly between Ronaldo and Messi praised the Barcelona star for winning the award for the first time in three years.

“What Messi does is impressive when you see them (the six Ballon d'Ors) altogether,” he added.

“It does not look real but it goes to show that he is an impressive player, one of the best of all time and I tip my hat to everything he has done. We should congratulate him and that is it.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo's partner Georgina Rodriguez is winning the battle on social media against Lionel Messi's wife Antonella Roccuzzo.
