Abike Dabiri-Erewa felicitates with Olasubomi Iginla on her MBE award by Queen Elizabeth

The chairman of Nigerian in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, was in the UK recently to celebrate with Olasubomi Iginla, the recipient of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).

The award was conferred on her by the Queen on Saturday, November 30, in recognition of her outstanding service to the community.

Recall that Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian high commissioner in the UK, Ambassador George Adesola Oguntade, congratulated Olasubomi on her honour as Member of the British Empire.

Olasubomi is a UK based philanthropist and the chief director of Lightup Foundation, an organisation whose focus is on young people and those who are disadvantaged. The organisation also has consultative status with the United Nations.

It should be noted that the formal investiture held on Tuesday, November 26, at the Buckingham Palace in London, United Kingdom.

The mayor of Enfield, Kate Anolue, who has been a two-time mayor in UK, also congratulated the Nigerian philanthropist for her success.

In another related news, Abike explained what the organisation is doing to tap into the human resource of Nigerians abroad for all-round advancement.

In speaking with the media, she mentioned what the commission is doing to employ human capital to broaden investment opportunities in Nigeria and increase the country’s foreign direct investment.

Abike said that Nigerians are the best at whatever they do in the world, and when that human resource is tapped into, the country will gain better than what it is getting in the oil sector.

When asked what investment opportunities the commission is presenting to Nigerians abroad, the chairman said they are looking at sectors like agriculture, education, health care, and others.
