The Nigerian Senate has said that it will pass the 2020 Appropriation Bill on Thursday, December 5.
Channels Television reports that the Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, had on Wednesday, December 4, announced that the 2020 budget will be passed by the National Assembly.
Lawan while informing lawmakers at the plenary on Wednesday said the Senate was only adding finishing touches to the budget.
He also said that the finance bills which will ensure that the required revenue needed to implement the budget is realised have already being passed.
Lawan said: “What we have done today is really to put the icing on the cake on what we are about to do tomorrow by the grace of God when we pass the 2020 budget."
Also speaking at the plenary, the chairman of the Senate committee on public procurement, Shuaibu Isah, said some amendments were made on the bills presented.
Isah said the amendment was made on the bills to encapsulate the ingredients of the varied views collated from experts and professionals.
He said amendment done on the bill is aimed at adding value to the Procurement Act.
Also, following the Senate's adoption of recommendation made by the committee, it also adopted the recommendation on the issuance of Certificate of No Objection which shall be issued by a committee of directors of the bureau.
He said Nigeria's procurement issues have been a huge bottleneck in actualising the process.
He also assured that the amendment will help fast track procurement process for the nation's budget implementation.
Speaking further, Isah said the bill will have to go to the House of Representatives for them to concur.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigerian Senate was expected to receive the report the 2020 budget on Tuesday, December 3.
It was gathered that the report is expected to have been received from the Senate Committee on Appropriation led by its chairman, Barau Jibrin.
