The director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dakuku Peterside, has incurred the wrath of the Nigerian Senate over his failure to honour the Red Chamber’s invitation.
Channels TV reports that the Senate joint committee on Navy, Maritime and Finance on Wednesday, December 4, threatened to issue a warrant of arrest against Peterside over his alleged refusal to appear before the panel.
Legit.ng gathers that the committee is investigating the activities of a private security company and some government security agencies who are accused of collecting illegal fees for securing vessels vat the safe anchorage area.
Peterside, who had contested the Rivers state governorship candidate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015, was appointed the DG of NIMASA by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016 after his defeat by Governor Nyesom Wike.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, December 4, confirmed the appointment of some Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Senate at the plenary on Wednesday confirmed that it had received and considered the report of the committee on INEC on the confirmation of appointments of the RECs.
