Abike Dabiri-Erewa calls for calm, condemns attack on Nigerian traders in Ghana

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has called the recent attacks on Nigerians traders in Ghana a horrible one.

The Nation reports that the chairman also asked for calm on both conflicting sides as she appealed to law enforcement agencies to protect lives as solutions are quickly proffered to the situation.

Abike made this call in a statement by the commission of head of media and public relations, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.

She said the attacks came at a time when such was considered horrendous following interventions of both Nigerian and Ghanaian leaders.

The NIDCOM boss, however, called on Nigerians in the foreign country not to take matters in their hands in the bid of seeking revenge.

”I hereby appeal for calm from both sides and implore the law enforcement agencies to protect the lives and properties especially that of Nigerians from being attacked pending the resolution of the matter,” a part of the statement read.

The attacks happened on Monday, December 2, when Ghanaians clashed with Nigerian traders at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Ghana.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Abike Dabiri-Erewa explained what the commission is doing to tap into the human resource of Nigerians abroad for all-round advancement.

She said NIDCOM will employ human capital to broaden investment opportunities in Nigeria and increase the country’s foreign direct investment.

Abike said that Nigerians are the best at whatever they do in the world, and when that human resource is tapped into, the country will gain better than what it is getting in the oil sector.

When asked what investment opportunities the commission is presenting to Nigerians abroad, she said they are looking at sectors like agriculture, education, health care, and others.
