Heracles Almelo striker and Eredivisie highest goal scorer, Cyriel Dessers, has expressed desire to play for Nigeria should the national team coach Gernot Rohr hand him an invite.
The 24-year-old forward, who was born in Belgium by a father of Nigerian root, has scored a remarkable 13 goals in 16 games in the new season so far.
He was on target last weekend for Heracles Almelo against Ado Den Hagg with a brace as his side thrashed their opponents 4-0.
Dessers is eligible to play for Belgium but an offer from Gernot Rohr can make the stellar star dump the European nation for Nigeria.
The Heracles star, who admitted he has not been to Nigeria due the political situation, has now sent a message to the national team head coach to hand him the chance of donning the green jersey.
“I have never been to Nigeria because of the political situation there," Dessers said.
"It was slightly better last year so I’ll be twice as happy if I can get an invite, even if it’s a friendly against Madagascar or Mauritius,” the 24-year-old star further submitted.
The 24-year-old also admitted that there has been link with top NFF official over possible appearance for Nigeria, though an array of surplus option may hinder the move.
"There's already been contact with the NFF. After the match against ADO Den Haag (last Saturday), an official from Nigeria sent me a message that I was doing well," Dessers said.
"But it's not going to be easy for me there either - there are over 300m Nigerians worldwide."
