Lionel Messi has stated that his retirement from football is near after winning his sixth career Ballon d'Or award on Monday, December 2.
Lionel Messi beat Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk and biggest rival Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Ballon d'Or award in Paris.
The Argentine football star started his career at Barcelona's academy before graduating to the main team, and since then, he has never played for any other club.
“I'm aware of how old I am.
“And I enjoy these moments so much because I know that retirement is approaching. Time flies.
“I'm now 32, though, and will be 33 at the end of the season, so, as I said, everything depends on how I feel physically,'' Lionel Messi explained according to the report on UK Mirror.
Lionel Messi and his Barcelona teammates are currently topping the Spanish La Liga standings with 31 points, and they are being followed by Real Madrid on the same points.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Lionel Messi made a striking confession after revealing he does not want a life contract at Camp Nou despite his desire to remain at Barcelona.
The 32-year-old's future at the club remains uncertain when club President Josep Bartomeu revealed that their captain has a clause in his contract which enables him to leave at the end of the season.
