APC wins 22 chairmanship seats in Niger LG elections

- The results of the chairmanship and councillorship elections in Niger state have been announced

- APC won the chairmanship seats in 22 local governments while PDP secured just one seat

- Two local governments are yet to know the winners as their results have not been submitted

The winners of the Niger state’s chairmanship and councillorship elections have been announced by the state’s independent electoral commission.

Channels TV reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the chairmanship elections in 22 local government areas, consoling the lead opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with just one seat.

Legit.ng gathers that two local governments are yet to know the winners as their results have not been submitted.

Niger state has a total of the 25 local government areas.

According to the state electoral commission’s chairman, Aminu Baba, there were pockets of violence in some local governments in the state which disrupted the voting process on Saturday, November 30.

Baba, however, said that the challenges were surmounted and the elections were successfully concluded. He thanked the security agencies for their support.

In a related development, the APC in Kebbi state won big on Saturday, October 26, as all its chairmanship candidates in the local government election were declared winners by the state’s electoral body.

Alhaji Aliyu Mera, the chairman of the Kebbi State Independent National Electoral Commission (KESIEC), made the announcement on Thursday, October 31.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the Niger state government said it would start paying the newly-approved N30,000 minimum wage after the verification of workers was concluded.

The disclosure was made in a statement signed by Abdullbergy Ebbo, public enlightenment officer to the state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello.

According to him, the ongoing verification of workers so far has led to the discovery of over 1,000 ghost workers amounting to over N300M.
