- Ikeme is now eyeing a return to his former club after his retirement
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has expressed desires to return to Wolverhampton Wanderers on an official capacity.
The 33-year-old goaltender was forced to retire from football after he was diagnosed with acute leukemia after returning abnormal blood tests during a routine pre-season check-up.
One year after, the English born Nigerian star announced he has come in "complete remission" but will never return to the sticks.

The retired goalkeeper has however admitted that he is willing to return to football but not in a hurry barely two years after hanging his gloves.
“With football, last year, it was not something I envisioned going back into. Now this year, slowly, the taste is coming back,” he told Express and Star.
“It’s not fully there yet, I’m not too sure, but maybe, eventually, I’d like to be involved at some level. I don’t know if it would be full-on or full-time, but I’d like to do something around the club.
“The club have always been brilliant with me and said the door is open when I’m ready to come back. Everything is settled in my life at the minute, and I’m not quite ready to make a decision.

"When I decide I want to do it, I want to be able to do it to my fullest. Maybe in the near future, maybe into the next year, possibly. I’d like to be involved with the club. I think I could help in any sort of way.”
Ikeme made 191 appearances for Wolves across competitions while featuring for Nigeria just ten times since making his international debut for the national team on 5 September 2015 against Tanzania.
Legit.ng earlier reported that former Nigeria international Carl Ikeme has been honoured by Wednesfield FC.
The club named a stand after their former goalkeeper located in the East Midlands.
Ikeme retired prematurely after having a long battle with leukemia in 2018 and missed out of Super Eagles squad that participated at the 2018 World Cup.
