- An appeal court in Jos, Plateau state, has granted election victory to Bauchi governor Bala Mohammed
- The court threw out the four arguments in the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Mohammed
- The appellate court says the petition against Bala Mohammed lacks merit
Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi, who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was in the afternoon of Friday, November 29, declared the rightful winner of the 2019 governorship election in the state.
This is as the appeal court in Jos, Plateau, threw out the petition by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the governor.
The ruling by the appeal court resulted in celebration in most parts of the state, according to the Nigerian Tribune.
The APC had come to the appeal court with four arguments against the victory of Governor Mohammed and his party.
The appellate court, however, dismissed the entire arguments of the opposition party in the state and its candidate, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.
In the lead judgement, Justice A. Otisi said that the grounds filed by the APC lacked merit.
Reacting, Chris Uche, counsel to Governor Mohammed, commended the ruling and called it a victory for democracy.
Legit.ng earlier reported how the PDP suffered a huge defeat on Friday, November 29, as the same appeal court sitting in Jos ruled in favour of Simon Lalong in the 2019 governorship election.
Justice Adumein Otisi, who led the judgement, threw out the appeal filed by PDP’s Jeremiah Useni for lacking merit.
The appeal court also fined Useni the sum of N200,000 in favour of Lalong and the APC.
