Unai Emery: Spaniard sacked as Arsenal manager after 2-1 loss to Frankfurt

- Unai Emery has parted ways with Arsenal after another disgraceful 2-1 loss to Frankfurt

- Arsenal confirmed Emery's sacking in a statement on Friday morning, November 27

- Freddie Ljungberg will take responsibility for the "first team as interim head coach" according to the club

Unai Emery has been sacked by Arsenal following a torrid run of lacklustre performance that saw the Premier League side forfeit an early lead to suffer another 2-1 defeat to Frankfurt.

The Spaniard was shown the way out of Emirates Stadium after eighteen months in charge of the North London side.

His sacking was confirmed in a statement by Arsenal on Friday, November 29, ending growing speculations surrounding the former PSG boss' future with the Gunners.

Arsenal have failed to record a magical resurgence since the 48-year-old manager assumed Emirates Stadium mantle in a deal that ended Arsene Wenger's lately inglorious reign.

A disgraceful run of poor outings summed up in Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool and Leicester City in November, coupled with recent draw to Southampton has left the North London on the losing side with Emery daily sliding down the pecking order with club hierarchy.

Arsenal have now confirmed parting ways with the Spaniard manager on Friday morning saying "the decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required."

"We announce today that the decision has been taken to part company with our head coach Unai Emery and his coaching team," Arsenal said on their website.

“Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand.

"We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success.”

A statement by the club also added that that Freddie Ljungberg will "take responsibility for the first team as interim head coach."
