Granit Xhaka angered Arsenal fans after he was caught on camera smiling and laughing with Eintracht Frankfurt players shortly after their 2-1 defeat.

The Switzerland international made his first appearance for the club in over a month after clashing with the fans during the 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace at the Emirates.

His disrespectful reaction to the crowd got him stripped of the club's captaincy which is now occupied by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The future of the 27-year-old with the Gunners became uncertain and it is understood that he would be sold in the January transfer window.

But Unai Emery kept faith in the midfielder as he was brought into the starting line up in the squad that faced Frankfurt in the Europa League.

During the pre-match warm-up, Xhaka was greeted well by the fans and when his name was announced before kick-off, he received a warm reception.

But the match did not go as planned as the Gunners slumped to another embarrassing defeat after the Bundesliga side came from a goal down to win the match 2-1.

And fans booed the team with others calling for the sack of Emery after the disappointing result with the German side.

But Xhaka also received backlash from fans on social media as he was seen exchanging pleasantries with a few players in the opposing team.
