Gary Rhodes, a British celebrity chef, has given up the ghost at age 59. Reports stated that the chef who is known as the 'first rock star of cooking' died on Tuesday, November 26, in Dubai, where he has been living since 2011.
In a statement from the family, they said: "The Rhodes family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of beloved husband, father and brother, Gary Rhodes OBE. Gary passed away last evening, Tuesday, November 26 2019, at the age of 59, with his beloved wife Jennie by his side. The family would like to thank everyone for their support and ask for privacy during this time."
The cause of death had not been made public yet, but one theory said it could be related to a blood clot on the brain he suffered in an accident when he was aged 19. However, according to a statement by Dubai Police, Rhodes 'died of natural causes'. He was said to have taken ill at home during a break in filming for a new TV show.
Rhodes, father of two, famous for putting 'British cuisine on the map' was also known for fronting shows MasterChef, MasterChef USA, Hell's Kitchen, Ready Steady Cook and Rhodes Around Britain throughout his career.
He also owned two restaurants in Dubai; one called Rhodes 2010 at Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort and Spa.
In 2006, he was honoured with an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to the hospitality industry, something he described as 'just unbelievable' and even had 'the edge' over a Michelin star.
His son George, who lives in the family home in the London borough of Bromley, has flown to Dubai to be with the family and shared a heartfelt post on his Instagram page.
Celebrity chefs including Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey also paid tribute to the deceased on social media.
Meanwhile, family and fans of Taiwan-born Canadian model/actor, Godfrey Gao, have been thrown into mourning following the tragic and unexpected death of the superstar.
According to reports, he died after collapsing while filming a variety show in China. His agency, JetStar Entertainment, while confirming the news, revealed he was reportedly rushed to hospital, where he died after nearly three hours.
According to Chinese media reports, the 35-year-old had been filming Chase Me; a night-time variety series which focuses on physical tasks for its contestants.
