Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo nets his tenth goal of the Chinese Super League season in Shanghai Shenhua's 3-1 defeat at home to Jiangsu Sainty on Wednesday, November 27.

The 30-year-old, who retired from international football after helping Nigeria win bronze at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations championship in Egypt, converted a 42nd-minute penalty for his side.

His goal was however not enough to save his side from losing their 15th game of the season as they sit 13th on the log with 30 points from 29 appearances.

Croatian forward Ivan Santini opened scoring for the visitors in the 24th minute, but the former Watford star equalized through a spot-kick three minutes to the end of the first stanza.

The away team doubled their lead through an own goal from Zhu Chenjie just five minutes after the game resumed.

Santini completed his brace in the 68th minute to ensure the visitors claim maximum points at the end of the meeting.

Ighalo returned to action having served a term on the sidelines due to the injury he suffered while representing Nigeria at AFCON 2019 tourney.

He has now stretched his goal tally to 46 in 72 games in the Chinese Super League and will be hoping to add to the number when he leads his side's attack against Guangzhou Evergrande on Sunday.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigeria's Odion Ighalo, Wilfred Ndidi, and Victor Osimhen have been shortlisted in a 30-man list for African player of the year.

In a list released by CAF, the three players were nominated alongside 27 other African stars with Man City's Riyad Mahrez and Liverpool duo Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane topping the list.
