Doctor saves elderly man’s life in mid-air by drawing out his urine with a straw in his mouth

- A quick-thinking doctor saved a man's life during a flight by sipping urine from his bladder

- The surgeon used materials from the aircraft and repeat the procedure for 37 minutes

- The elderly patient was unable to urinate and was in excruciating pain as his bladder contained approximately 800ml of urine

It seemed like any other China Southern Airlines flight from Guangzhou to New York in the United States.

However, an emergency situation soon arose as one of the elderly passengers found himself in a dire situation.

Although his bladder was filled with approximately 800ml of urine, the man was unfortunately unable to relieve himself.

TimesLIVE reported that one of his fellow passengers, Zhang Hong, was a vascular surgeon and quickly jumped in to save the day.

Using a syringe needle, straws and an oxygen mask, Hong started sipping urine from the elderly man's bladder and continued for 37 minutes.

Video footage of the incident went viral and the doctor can be seen spitting the urine into an empty bottle.

According to The South China Morning Post, the situation could have had fatal consequences had Hong not taken decisive action.

Legit.ng noted that the emergency procedure was performed with six hours of travelling time still remaining.

Hong said: "When I saw the man could hardly bear the pain any more, my only thought was how to get the urine out of his bladder.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported the story of Alexandra Adams, a 25-year-old medical student who is in her fourth year and is striving hard to become the first deafblind medical doctor.
