- The forum of political party chairmen has expressed its observations about the Kogi and Bayelsa gubernatorial election
- The forum indicted both the PDP and the APC for the criminal activities of thugs during the election in both states
- The forum also said that IGP Ibrahim Adamu should explain to Nigeria why there were security lapses in Kogi after the deployment of policemen
A forum of political party chairmen has pointed accusing fingers at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the activities of thugs during the Bayelsa and Kogi governorship election.
In a statement made available to Legit.ng, the forum said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has no blame for the security lapses during the election in both states.
However, the forum claimed that security agents did not live up to expectations as thugs had a free hand to mar the poll, adding that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu has a lot of explaining to do on why such was the case after deployment of 35,000 policemen in Kogi.
The statement partly read: "The failure of the elections was not caused by administrative lapses or inefficiency of the INEC; but by the actions of security agencies who compromised the process and aided political thugs to disrupt the entire process and cart away electoral materials."
In a final note, the forum observed that it is obvious that politicians in the country seem not to have learned any lesson from the conduct of elections since the inception of democracy in the country.
The forum said: "Men in police uniforms were seen aiding thugs to carry ballot boxes and other materials from the centres and abducting polling staff."
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the immediate investigation into the cause of the murder of Achejuh Abuh, the PDP’s women leader in Kogi state following the just concluded governorship election.
He said the evildoers behind the act must be made to face the wrath of the law, irrespective of who they are. “President Buhari charges all security agencies involved in the investigation to do a thorough and expeditious job on the matter so that justice could be served without fear or favour."
