Buhari sympathises with leaders of east and central Africa over deadly floods, mudslides

- The deadly floods and mudslides in some parts of Africa has dominated international news in recent days

- President Muhammadu Buhari has released a statement on the disaster experienced by some friendly African countries

- Buhari expressed sadness over the loss of lives, the economic and social disruptions caused by the natural disasters

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed solidarity with the government and people of Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) over the deadly flood disasters and devastating mudslides wreaking havoc in some parts of their countries.

In separate messages of sympathy and solidarity to the leaders of Kenya and DRC, Buhari said: “the government of Nigeria sympathises with you and the victims of these deadly and devastating flood disasters and mudslides.”

The Nigeria leader expressed sadness over the loss of lives, the economic and social disruptions caused by the natural disasters, adding that: “we are so interconnected by our common humanity that one man's misfortune affects the joy of others because of the ligament of compassion that holds us together.”

Buhari noted that “emergency management response is one of Africa's biggest challenges of development, and we should work together to find a common strategy to minimise the human and economic impacts of these catastrophes.”

He further stated that the hearts and prayers of all Nigerians are with those affected by the natural disaster.

Meanwhile, President Buhari recently sent his condolences to former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, over the death of a close aide, Alhaji Umar Pariya.

President Buhari said in a statement by his spokesman, Femi Adesina: ‘‘I received the news of the death of your close aide, Alhaji Pariya, with a heavy heart. It is very touching to lose such a personal aide of many years. May Allah grant you the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

‘‘May Allah grant his family the strength to absorb the impact of this death, forgive his shortcomings and reward his good deeds in the hereafter.”
