Tinubu congratulates Yahaya Bello, Lyon over victories at poll, tells them what to do

- Tinubu has reacted to the twin-victory recorded by APC in Kogi and Bayelsa states

- INEC had declared candidates of APC the winners of Saturday, November 16, election

- The APC national leader advised the winners to be magnanimous in victory

The national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has congratulated Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state and the winner of Bayelsa state governorship election, David Lyon, over their victories at the poll.

Legit.ng reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the duo the winners of the Saturday, November 16, governorship held in their states.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Tunde Rahman, the former governor of Lagos state, also extended congratulations to the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, Kogi and Bayelsa state chairmen and other leaders in the two states on this twin-victory.

He said the outcome of the elections showed that the people believe in the direction that President Buhari and the APC wish to take this nation, adding that the electorate have faith in the progressive reforms the party envisions.

"David Lyon’s election represents a significant shift in the politics of Bayelsa state. By voting APC, the people of Bayelsa have voted for progressive reform and Asiwaju joins them in their belief that David Lyon is the man to deliver the needed and desired reform. With this victory, governor-elect, Lyon’s task is to justify the people’s faith by providing a purposeful and transformational administration.

Speaking on Bello's victory, Tinubu said that the outcome of the election showed that the people of Kogi believe in his leadership, adding that the governor must now re-double his efforts to do more for the people in his second term.

He said: "The governor must focus on the development of the state as he is the person, more than anyone else, who will determine the fate of Kogi. He must do all he can to realise the potential of the state. He must take advantage of the state’s agricultural richness as well as its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and the commerce resulting from that closeness.

"I urge the opposition candidates and politicians in Kogi and Bayelsa to rally round their governors and work together in the interests of their two states. I condemn the scattered incidents of violence witnessed in the election in some parts of Kogi state. Election should celebrate our democratic existence. Never should election be occasioned by loss of life."

He, however, sympathised with the victims of the election and commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives.
