Adoke: Interpol detains former attorney general in Dubai

- Bello Adoke has been arrested in Dubai by Interpol

- Adoke had reportedly travelled to Dubai for medical reasons

- The EFCC is after him over his involvement in the controversial Malabu Oil deal

A former Nigerian attorney-general Mohammed Bello Adoke has reportedly been detained in Dubai by Interpol.

According to Premium times, Adoke was arrested shortly after arriving in Dubai on November 11.

The news report said the former attoney-general had travelled to the country for medical evaluation after a court warrant for his arrest was vacated in October.

Recall the the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) is after Adoke over his involved in the controversial Malabu Oil deal.

Though Adeoke had denied any involvement in the alleged fraud, he has been on self-exile since vacating office in May 2015.

Adoke had also repeatedly cited a court judgment that said he could not be prosecuted for actions he took while in office based on presidential directives.

Meanwhile, recall that Legit.ng had reported that Adoke filed a petition against the federal government and the EFCC at the United Nations Human Rights Commission.

Adoke in his complaint accused FG and EFCC of persecuting, intimidating and harassing him.

He also accused the two defendants of threat of deprivation right to life, unlawful interference with right to family life and livelihood.

Also recall that Legit.ng had also reported that the former AGF who was in Netherlands said he would only return to Nigeria if he was assured that the FG would not harm him.

The former AGF has been accused of money laundering and fraud that marred the transfer of OPL 245 from Malabu Oil and Gas Limited to Royal Dutch Shell and Italy's ENI.
