FUTA viral video: School suspends bullies involved in the assault of 100l student

A video of a group of students at the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure has been the topic of conversation on social media. Nigerians have shared outrage over the viral video that showed students bullying another student.

In the video, the group led by a male and a female student were seen beating one 100 level female student identified simply as Bolu. The students were heard telling Bolu to kneel and when she refused they ganged up on her and started beating her.

The school has now released an official statement signed by the deputy director of corporate communications, Adegbenro Adebanjo. The statement revealed that the students have been suspended.

According to the statement, the school held a disciplinary hearing this Sunday, November 17, and suspended the students after investigations were done. The incident had taken place on Saturday, November 16.

FUTA also revealed that the incident had occurred off at an off-campus hostel. The statement said the students would be on suspension while the school investigates the matter properly.

In the statement, the school condemned the action of the students, stating that anyone caught in such acts would be visited with the full weight of the law of the school.

It also revealed that the university is providing medical and counseling support to the affected student, who is a student of ecotourism and wildlife management.

According to the university's students on Twitter, the male student, Obalola, who led the assault was already in trouble with the school before this recent suspension.

Obalola was allegedly fighting for his school daughter, Oluwadare Faith, the female student who led the assault with him. Faith allegedly had a bone to pick with Bolu.
