Bayelsa election: Jonathan decries late arrival of election materials in Otuoke

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed his disappointment at the late arrival of election officers at his ward 13, polling unit 39 in Otuoke, Ogbia local government area, where he is expected to cast his vote.

Jonathan who had stepped out of his house to check if the election officers had arrived, met only Legit.ng correspondent on ground at the venue and shook his head in disappointment.

While walking down, he had first muttered a few words, expressing his discomfort with the state of things.

“Are you an electoral officer,” he asked our correspondent, before adding: “where are they?”

“Well... this is where I will vote, but since they’re not here yet, let me go back inside.”

“You see now, youths of nowadays, you need to do more,” he stated further while patting our correspondent’s shoulder as he walked back to his house.

As at 8:19 when Jonathan stepped out, no election materials were sighted at the polling unit.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Ijaw Elders Forum (IEF) Lagos, in collaboration with other organisations called on the people of Bayelsa to exercise their civic responsibility by voting the next governor of the state through a peaceful and credible process on Saturday, November 16.

The groups in a joint statement by Efiye Bribena, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) expressed alarm at the turn of event in Bayelsa.
