A police inspector deployed to Nembe in Bayelsa from the Mobile Police formation in Asaba, Delta state, has been shot dead in a crisis at the aborted rally organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Legit.ng gathered that the inspector died due to gunshot injuries suffered from the mayhem at the aborted PDP rally at the King Koko Square in Nembe.
Also, the body of the late police inspector whose name was not disclosed has since been deposited at the Nembe General Hospital.
Another police officer who was lucky at the rally's crisis survived the attack with gunshot wounds on his leg.
Two other police officers who were at the aborted PDP rally, are said to be critically injured and are battling to survive while several other people are reportedly missing.
Medical personnel are also said to have been battling to save lives of the victims at the Specialists Hospital and Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.
As at Friday, November 15, 39 of the injured have been discharged on follow up, while 47 are still on admission.
Also, 32 others are still receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre while about 15 still at the Specialist Hospital, Yenagoa.
Blaming the attack on the opposition, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governorship candidate for the PDP in Bayelsa election, Duoye Diri, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in volatile areas in the state.
Reacting to the killing, the deputy inspector general of Police in charge of Saturday, November 16, election in the state, Anthony Ogbizi, said the suspect in the shooting would be arrested.
According to the Nation, Ogbizi said the Police has swung into action with an aim to arrest militants who killed the officer and injured many others in Nembe.
He also called on the electoral and politicians alike to abide by the electoral laws while exercising their franchise come Saturday.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, had urged security operatives in Bayelsa and Kogi state not to interfere with the voting process in the states.
Secondus also condemned the alleged attack on the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi state, Natasha Akpoti.
