I have an amazing smoothie recipe on the breakfast menu today, it is so rich and packed with a lot of nourishing goodness that is sure to make your mouth water and I got most the fruits for about a fraction of the prize because the fresh fruit vendor was almost closing shop when I got there, nothing like a good bargain right?
I always like to encourage my family to eat fresh fruits in ways that I can, so there’s always a fresh supply of fruits in the fruit bowl in my kitchen, I buy so much at times it spills over the bowl but that is still fine because they always get eaten.
I am a strong advocate for eating very colourful food, fruits are vegetables are a fundamental part of our diet because they are a delicious way of packing on good vitamins and minerals with almost little or no preparations involved.
I am not really one who likes to have breakfast; a cup of green tea does it for me most times, especially when I am in a hurry to get out the door.
These days, however, there are so many quick and easy breakfast options; delicious, satisfying and healthy options to get your day started that, it is very difficult to resist having breakfast. like the one I have got today, no hassles during the process, all I had to do was blend, blend and blend away!
Plums are very succulent fruits that fill the mouth with so much goodness with every bite, they come in deeply rich maroon colour, sometimes even almost purple and are very fleshy with just a small seed inside, making them drupes like mangoes as well.
They belong to the genus Prunus, of the Rosaceae family which also includes apricots and peaches, and there are over 2000 varieties. Plums are predominantly grown in China, Serbia and Romania.
Aside from how deliciously juicy plums are, they are also very nutritious. According to www.organicfacts.net , plums contain a healthy amount of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B, vitamin C, folate and vitamin K, Vitamins B 1, 2, 3 and 6.
Plums are also a good source of iron, zinc, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium and together, these vitamins and minerals present in plums help us control diabetes, aid digestion, fight obesity, maintain a healthy nervous system, improve our cognitive abilities as well as help keep us in tip top shape. What’s really not to love?
Like I always say, the more colourful a meal, the more nutrients lies there in
1. 3 luscious plums
2. 1 kiwi
3. 1 banana
4. 1 table spoon hemp seeds
5. 2 table spoons chia seeds
6. 3 tablespoons Greek yoghurt or any unsweetened yoghurt
1. Prepare the fruits by first by washing them thoroughly,
2. Peel the banana and kiwi and chop into small chunks, just so it can fit easily into the blender, cut the plums in half and remove seeds.
3. Now add all of the ingredients into a clean blender, all the fruits, seeds and yoghurt, then blend until smooth and serve in a clean glass cup
Chia seeds don’t exactly blend smoothly, so don’t be worried if you still see them whole in the smoothie, the good thing is, they are working their magic in your system as you go. I have topped my smoothie with blueberries and strawberries, you can top yours with any fruits or seeds that you enjoy.
There you have it, a delicious food drink in hand
