Bayelsa election: David Lyon says he is contesting poll as APC candidate

David Lyon, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Bayelsa governorship election has disclosed that he is still contesting in the election following an appeal against a court verdict which had earlier disqualified him from contesting in the poll.

The Nation reports the Lyon on Thursday evening, November 14, said the said Court of Appeal has asked all parties to return to the status quo.

The APC candidate speaking through the alternate director-general of the David Lyon and Degi Eremienyo campaign organization, Seyefa Brisibe, urged his supporters and all Bayelsans to come out on Saturday, November 16, and vote massively for the APC.

He described the ruling of the Federal High Court which disqualified him as a procured judgement and asked the people not to be deterred by what he described as the antics of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Bayelsa election: This is what we will do about court ruling disqualifying APC - INEC

"Let me use this opportunity to let all Bayelsans and our teaming supporters know that there is no cause for alarm. Our candidates, Chief David Lyon and Bishop Degi Eremienyo are fully, squarely on the ballot, he said.

“This is because, we, as law-abiding citizens, have done what is proper, judicious and procedural to see that that judgement does not stand.

“I want to appeal to all Bayelsans in the remotest areas, which our next governor stands for, to come out enmass to vote the APC come November 16.”

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, November 14, had earlier disclosed that the Bayelsa state governorship election scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 16, will be held as planned despite a court order invalidated the candidacy of David Lyon, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming poll.

Premium times reports that Sarian Dangosu, the electoral commission’s publicity secretary in Bayelsa, said the Federal High Court ruling which invalidated the candidacy of the APC did not stop the election.
