Omoleye Sowore: DSS yet to release activist - Lawyer cries out

- One of Omoleye Sowore's lawyers has cried out over the activist's delayed release by the Department of State Services (DSS)

- The lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, said that according to the DSS, the officer in charge of authorising Sowore's release is unavailable

- Abubakar said that the DSS has, however, admitted that the activist's legal team has received court orders for Sowore's release

Marshal Abubakar, a member of Omoleye Sowore's legal team, has revealed why the Department of State Services (DSS) is yet to release the human rights activists despite the fact that he has met his bail conditions.

Abubakar informed journalists on Sunday, November 10, that Sowore is still in DSS' custody as, according to officials of the service who spoke to the lawyer, that the officer in charge of authoritising the activist's release is not available.

The legal practitioner said: “We are asking the DSS to please, in the interest of justice and rule of law, release Omoyele Sowore, to us to go with him.

“We have been here for the past two hours and we are demanding that Sowore be released to the lawyers and his family, in line with the orders of the court.”

He also said that the DSS has acknowledged the fact that Sowore's legal team has secured court orders for his release.

Abubakar added that while the DSS has promised to comply to the order of the Federal High Court in Abuja, he and his colleagues are still waiting for the service to make good its promise.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Sowore had met the bail conditions imposed on him by the Federal High Court in Abuja, according to his lawyer, Femi Falana.

Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria, revealed this on Wednesday, November 6, at the Federal High Court, adding that the defendants would be freed later on in the day.
