Christian Eriksen: Man United plotting £42m bid for Tottenham star

- Christian Eriksen could sign a pre-contract with Man United in January

- The Red Devils are preparing a bid of about £42m for the midfielder

- Spurs are hoping the Danish attacker would sign a new deal before the expiration of the current one next June

Manchester United have reportedly launched a bid for want-away Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen ahead of January transfer window.

The 27-year-old's current deal with the north London side expires at the end of this season and the Danish star has refused to pen a new deal with the club.

United are hoping to take advantage of the player's refusal to pen a new deal with the club and lure him to Old Trafford next summer.

It is no news that the Red Devils are struggling in all competition and they will gladly add the forward to their fold in a bid to be more commanding in the attack.

According to Express UK, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side attempted to sign the player, but Spurs refused to allow their man leave.

Instead, the club would rather do business with Spanish League giants Real Madrid where they hope to make more money at the end of the deal.

Meanwhile, reports in Spain claims Eriksen seems to have given up on a chance to join Real Madrid, with Los Blancos still keen on landing Paul Pogba.

The publication further revealed that Man United are ready to splash £42 million for the midfielder in the January transfer window.

Eriksen might not extend his deal with Tottenham beyond the end of the season, and Mauricio Pochettino seems resigned to losing his man.

Spurs boss however said that his attitude has stayed the same despite all the speculation.

"I don’t think the performance of Christian is any different than when we signed him five-and-a-half years ago,’ said Pochettino.

"His commitment is the same, sometimes we maybe look too much at whether a player has a one-year contract or a four-year contract.

"In the end it is about commitment, maybe players in the last year of their contract show more commitment than a player with four more years on their contract.

"But when you see Christian and you compare him to different seasons, he is the same player.” earlier reported that Marcus Rashford believes Man United can finish in Champions League position at the end of the season.

The Red Devils United suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth in a tough encounter that sent them to 10th spot on the table with 13th points.

They will however hope they can return to winning ways when they face off with Brighton and Hove Albion - taking a cue from their Europa League success during the week.
