Barely twenty hours after the Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna sacked the spokesperson of the Senate and senator representing Ekiti south, Adedayo Adeyeye and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue certificate of return to former deputy governor of the state, Abiodun Olujimi, the appeal court has affirmed the election of Senator Rocha Okorocha.
The Nation reports that the Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri, the Imo state capital, on Thursday, November 7, affirmed Okorocha's victory at the poll.
Legit.ng gathered that Okorocha, who was the immediate past governor of Imo state, and a senator representing Imo West senatorial district at the upper legislative chamber, had his election upheld after the appeal filed against him was dismissed.
According to the report, the chairman of the panel, R.A Ada, who read the judgment, said that the appeals filed by Senator Osita Izunaso of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Jones Onyereri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against Okorocha lacked merit.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the victory of a former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor-Kalu, in the 2019 Senate election, was affirmed by a Court of Appeal.
It was reported that the court in a judgement delivered on Thursday, November 7, dismissed an application filed by the PDP's candidate for the Abia North senatorial district, Mao Ohuabunwa against Kalu's victory.
The former governor of Abi state, thereafter said he had nothing to say but to give all thanks and glory to God Almighty.
