Tell President Buhari my people are not happy - Wike to ministers

- Governor Nyesom Wike wants Nigerian leaders to relegate politics and focus on governance

- Wike says the period of election is over and that Nigeria deserves development

- The governor notes that his state is not happy with the centre due to alleged marginalisation

The governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike, has met with Adamu Adamu, minister of education, and his counterpart in the Ministry of Women Affairs and urged them to tell President Muhammadu Buhari that Rivers people are not happy with his administration.

Wike, who played host to the two ministers, also said it was time for leaders in the country to relegate politicking and focus more on developing the country.

"For now, governance is what our people require. We should relegate politics to the background. Political parties as vehicles take us to a certain point for us to disembark and face governance," he said.

Wike, who complained about the high level of politics against Rivers, said: "Honourable ministers, when you go back, inform Mr President that the people of Rivers state are not happy with the high level of marginalisation."

To him, the state should benefit from projects like others in the federation so that Nigeria should not be seen as a one-party country.

"We cannot run a one-party state. If we do that, the country will collapse. You cannot take every state. It is not possible,” the governor said.

Wike confessed that he had wished Buhari would lose the 2019 presidential election, but added that immediately after the court pronouncement in his favour, he had no option but to congratulate the president.

He further called for the encouragement of girl-child education, an idea he said he advanced while he was minister of education.

Adamu commended Wike's focus on education, his brand of politics devoid of bitterness as well as his achievements as Nigeria's education minister.
