The chairman of Daar Communications Plc, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has said the minister of information and culture minister, Lai Mohammed, damaged his reputation by including his name in a looters list.

The Cable reports that Dokpesi told the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja that after his name appeared on the list released by the ministry of information and culture, everybody treated him like a plague.

The businessman made the statement on Tuesday, November 5, when he was being cross-examined by the defendants’ counsel in a N5bn compensation suit he filed against Lai Mohammed as well as the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami.

He said as a result of being listed among treasury looters, he no longer enjoyed the goodwill of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), The Nation reports.

The media proprietor also noted that his inclusion in the list caused him setbacks and discrimination from the society.

He also demanded a full retraction and apology to him in all major electronic and print media outlets in the country in addition to the N5 billion compensation for damages.

Meanwhile, an Abuja high court had ruled that the federal government’s alleged looters’ list released does not constitute a violation of the rights to presumption of innocence of those named.

The Punch reported that while delivering judgment in a suit filed by Chief Raymond Dokpesi, seeking the court’s declaration of the looters’ list as void, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi, held that the suit lacked merit

Legit.ng gathered that the court ruled that the disclosure of the alleged looters’ list by the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on behalf of the federal government earlier in March does not carry any force of law as the minister is neither the judge nor the prosecutor in the criminal case pending before the federal high court against Dokpesi.
