British-Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress, Cynthia Erivo, has won the Breakout Actress for her role in the movie Harriet during the 23rd annual Hollywood Film Awards.

The award ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills on Sunday, November 3.

The British actress got the award of Best Breakout Actress for her outstanding role interpretation as slavery abolitionist, Harriet Tubman, in the movie, Harriet. This is her first award for acting in films.

Cynthia stunned many in her floor-length gown and the impressive accessories that made her cynosure of all eyes at the award ceremony.

She sported an array of jewellery, including chunky rings, large earrings and studded bracelets. But what got most people’s attention was the spikes on Cynthia’s hair, an arty Mohican made of three gold spikes gracefully installed on her signature buzzcut which was dyed pale blue.

Erivo was born as Cynthia Chinasaokwu Erivo in London to Nigerian parents.

Cynthia is not new to awards as she had previously she won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical and was one of nine recipients of the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Lupita Nyong'o and her mother, Dorothy Nyong'o, received awards from the Harlem School of Arts. The black and beautiful actress entered the stage to receive her award with Beyonce’s anthemic hit Brown Skin Girl.

The Oscar award-winning actress and her mother were feted by Harlem School of the Arts for their role in creating cancer awareness across the globe.
