- The candidate of PDP, Ahmad Maccido, had approached the appeal court to challenge the judgement of the lower court which favoured Wamakko
Hours after appeal court sacked a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and majority leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Doguwa, the appellate court sitting in Sokoto on Monday, November 4, upheld the election of Senator Aliyu Wamakko.
Legit.ng reports that the former governor of Sokoto state is a senator representing Sokoto Central at the Senate.
The court dismissed the appeal filed by Senator Ahmad Maccido against the judgement of the national and state House of Assembly election petition tribunal.
The tribunal had on September 6, dismissed the petition of Maccido of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the election of Wamakko of the APC.
Maccido, who was dissatisfied by the judgement, approached the appeal court challenging the judgement of the lower court.
In their judgement, the three man panel led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, whose judgement was read by Justice Hamma Akawu, said that the appeal court upheld the judgement of the lower court.
NAN reports that the panel also struck out the petition by Aminu Shagari and Kabiru Achida of PDP challenging the tribunal judgement of Abubakar Yabo and Almustapha Rabah of APC respectively.
Shagari and Achida contested the 2019 election for Yabo/Shagari and Rabah/Wurno federal constituencies under the platform of PDP respectively.
Reading the judgement, the presiding judge Justice Saulawa said the court lacked jurisdiction, as the 60 days jurisdiction of the court had elapsed on November 2 and November 3, respectively.
The court has also dismissed the appeal by Alhaji Sa’idu Na-Bunkari of APC challenging the election of Alhaji Mani Maishinku of PDP for Binji/Silame federal constituency.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the majority leader of the House of Representatives, Hon Alhassan Doguwa, was on Monday, November 4, sacked by the Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna state.
It was reported that the appeal court sacked Doguwa in a unanimous decision of the judges.
The report said the court nullified the entire election in the two local government areas of Tudunwada/Doguwa federal constituency of Kano that the ranking lawmaker represents at the green chamber.
