Huawei Y3 specs, review, price

Huawei Y3 falls into the budget-friendly category of smartphones. Compared to the Y3 released in 2017, the 2018 version has better specs such as a 2280 mAh battery and an Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. The previous version had a 2200 mAh battery, which is quite unreliable in this era as users now carry out multiple activities using their phones.

Launched in May 2018, this device has gained popularity in the market, mostly as a result of its low price. It is an entry-level smartphone with decent specs for a regular phone user. If you are looking to purchase it, the Huawei Y3 price in Nigeria is currently 34,800 Naira on Jumia. However, before you go ahead and place your order, let us discover more about the phone.

Design

This device is built in a plastic body. This material is one of the factors that have contributed to the low price of the phone. In terms of weight, the plastic material allows it to be very light. Therefore, it is easy to move around with the device in your hand, pocket, purse, or bag. It is available in three different colors; White, Grey, and Gold.

Display

It features a 5-inch IPS LCD screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9. The screen has a 480 x 854-pixel resolution and 196 PPI pixel density. Unfortunately, it does not come with a screen protector. However, you can find a protector in most smartphone stores.

Processor, storage, and performance

This device is run by a Mediatek MT6737M chipset with a quad-core processor clocking at a speed of 1.1 GHz. Operating on a Mali-T720 MP2 GPU, the phone is pretty slow. The Y3 takes quite a long time to execute commands, such as switching from one application to another.

It relies on 1GB RAM to process different operations, with a low 8GB ROM. Luckily, users can expand the storage space using a microSD card of up to 128 GB.

Huawei Y3 battery capacity

A non-removable 2280mAh battery powers the Y3. While on moderate usage, the phone can last for around 24 hours without recharging.

Speaker and call quality

The sound produced by the device’s speaker is good and clear enough. The same applies to the earpiece as users are able to hear and communicate easily with others via calls.

Operating system & features

Huawei Y3 Android version 8.0 Oreo, Go edition, is the operating system that is used. Unlike most smartphones available today, this one does not have a fingerprint sensor. It also does not offer the face unlock feature. This is a big let down by the company as users today want to save time using either of the features to unlock their smartphones.

Huawei Y3 camera, video, and image quality

It comes with an 8 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture. It also offers an LED flash which produces light to capture shots in dark areas. The selfie camera is 2 MP, which is quite poor in this technological era. Pictures taken with the selfie camera appear blurred as shown below.

If you intend to use your phone for photography purposes, it is advisable that you find another device as the image quality of the Y3 is not impressive. Falling under the same price range, the Tecno Spark 2 would be a great alternative.

Huawei Y3 reviews

Here are some comments from people about the phone:

  • Anonymous: Its camera keeps stopping the pictures are take are blank.
  • Sboh: How to delete some unwanted contact numbers bcoz some don't get deleted.
  • Anonymous: is huawei y3 2018 model have applock in phone??

Verdict

There is a high possibility that users coming from a high-end smartphone will be disappointed by the performance of this device. I would recommend this phone to new smartphone users as they will be able to take their time to slowly and patiently learn how such a device works. You can compare this phone with Tecno Spark 2 and Infinix Smart 2 HD and analyze which one will suit you best.

With no doubt, Huawei Y3 is a good low-budget phone. It is an excellent choice for someone that is not seeking to be constantly engaged on social media. If you are looking for something affordable and simple, this is the device for you. If you are looking to carry out heavy tasks, consider purchasing a better phone.
