Just days to the governorship election in Kogi, seven top officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign organisation has been reportedly arrested by the police.
Daily Trust reports that those arrested included the chairman of the security committee for the organisation, ACP Suleiman Ejeh Abutu (rtd).
Six others faced similar arrest by the police, and according to the report, they were picked for allegedly possessing firearms and ammunition considered illegal.
It was learnt that they were arrested in Dekina local government area of Kogi state by officers of the special tactical squad from the force headquarters, Abuja.
They were, thereafter taken to Abuja with some of the alleged firearms and ammunition including AK-47 rifles, pump action and pistols they were reportedly found with.
Austin Okai, deputy director of the organisation, said the arrest of the seven officials has political undertone.
According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is making use of the police to arrest members of the PDP out of fear and to keep them out of circulation ahead of the election on November 16.
He mentioned Senator Yahaya Ugbane and Alex Kadiri as two of the other officials of the PDP penned down for arrest by the APC.
Legit.ng earlier reported that the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, recently said that results from the November gubernatorial elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states would be transmitted manually.
