Championship side Stoke City have sacked manager Nathan Jones after a disastrous run of form.

Jones parted ways with the Potters after the club picked up just two wins from their opening 14 matches.

Stoke City currently sit joint bottom of the Championship table on eight points, only staying inches above Barnsley on goal difference.

Jones’ latter days with the club have been bittersweet, as he was on the verge of the axe as early as September after the first 10 games.

However, the Stoke City hierarchy looked to have had faith restored in the 46-year old after back to back victories over Swansea and Fulham elated spirits at the bet365 stadium once again.

Stoke city released a statement on their club website confirming his departure “with immediate effect”.

Assistant manager Paul Hart and first team coach Joaquin Gomez have also left their positions.

"The club would like to thank Nathan and his staff for their efforts over the past nine months," a statement from Stoke City official website read.

As the club looks for a new manager, former Stoke midfielder Rory Delap will take charge of The Potters.

In total, Stoke have only won six times in 38 games under Jones. They have lost 10 championship games this season.

Prior to his appointment, Jones enjoyed quite the successful stint with his former club – League One side Luton town.
