Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are arguably the greatest football stars in history and fans have often been polarized in a fierce debate that always borders on who the better player is between the duo.

For over a decade, both players have dominated the football space in a stiff competition that has seen them garnered numerous individual awards, including five Ballon D'Or awards each.

The Barcelona star and his Portuguese rival have broken long set records, with Ronaldo hitting his seven hundred career goals in 973 matches.

The rivalry, though "healthy" as described by Ronaldo, was recently renewed when the Portuguese star scored his controversial winning goal for Juventus against Genoa.

The 34-year-old was knocked down inside the box by Antonio Sanabria and the referee awarded the penalty which he fired into the net to hand the Turin their victory.

However, the goal did not go down well with Messi' fans who questioned Ronaldo's mentality.

A fan would later upload a video of the Barca captain telling the referee not to award a penalty for a foul on him as Catalans demolished Rayo Vallecano same night, GivemeSports reports.

"Messi kids fans are so obsessed with the goat , he is Lives in their minds , that because he is the best,'' a Ronaldo fan hit back.

"He (Messi) is the right candidate for the Ballondor2019 Ronaldo ain't get a chance,'' A Messi fan was quick to replied.

The Juventus talisman won the award on three different occasions in the past but Messi's brilliant performance which helped Barcelona clinch La Liga title in 2018 will see him face his Portuguese rival for the award.
