Nigerian painter, Babajide Olatunji has his latest masterpiece titled Efunsetan Adekemi Aniwura exhibited at the Contemporary African Art Fair at the Somerset House, in Central London.
Olatunji's subject, Efunsetan Adekemi Aniwura was the second Iyalode of Ibadan and said to be one of the wealthiest women who ever lived. The painting itself, 250cm by 300cm is painted with acrylic on primed linen. This is Africa reports that the painting is part of a series Olatunji is working on, titled The History of the Yorubas.
In his painting, Olatunji “describes a hypothetical visit to Efunsetan, by emissaries from Latosisa, the Aare Ona Kakanfo (Field Marshall) of the Ibadan army. The purpose of their visit is to take inventory of war supplies, for one of his expeditions, from the Iyalode (female chieftain of the highest rank)”.
The painting, steeped in Yoruba history, captures a period when different towns were at war with each other. His brilliant work is now being exhibited in London and marks him as a great painter of his time.
Meanwhile, former US first lady, Michelle Obama, was turned into a saint by a painter, Peaches McBiscuit. The divine-like image was shared on Instagram by @thenearsightednarwhal and called for people to purchase the artwork that labelled her Saint Michelle.
By definition, a saint is a person who is recognised as having an exceptional degree of holiness or likeness or closeness to God. However, certain human beings can be classified saint because they embody the values that promote peace and progress.
