A group of Yoruba youth have commended Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for his remarks on the use of social media by Nigerian youths.
The youths under the platform of Yoruba Youth Council Worldwide said the vice president has shown that he is out to promote mutual peace and douse any form of tension among groups in Nigeria.
The Nation reports that the youth group stating that Osinbajo address on the use of social media is in order said the present administration has succeeded in improving the lives of many Nigerians who were previously living below the poverty line.
A statement by the president of the group, Aremo Hassan, said the Yoruba youth council will continue to render its support to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in order to ensure that peace and unity are entrenched in the minds of citizens.
Hassan said: “Indeed, as individuals and citizens of this great nation, it is our responsibility as good citizens to use social media positively and not allow it to become an instrument to promote conflict or heat up the polity."
The group also called in the Nigerian populace to guard themselves against fake news and lies propagated on various social media platforms.
Further speaking on challenges of insecurity, the youth council said that the meeting between President Buhari and his Russian colleague, Vladimir Puttin will bring a lasting solution to Nigeria's security.
Hassan said the meeting would also champion enhanced security for Nigerians and restore the people's confidence in the effort by the present administration, through the military in the fight against insurgency in the country.
The vice president had called on all Nigerians to work towards regulating their activities on social media platforms.
Osinbajo while making the demand said the social media should be used as an edifying platform rather than one which would defy its purpose by spreading fake news, lies and propaganda.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Southwest Youth Congress (SYC) had earlier assured Nigerians that Osinbajo will become the president of Nigeria by 2023.
The youth group also said that no amount of lies or propaganda against the president or Osinbajo would stop the VP from emerging as president in the next general election.
