Two Africans emerge winners of science journalism awards

- Two Africans, Munyaradzi Makoni and Chikezie Omeje, have emerged winners of beat feature writing awards

- The brilliant minds were recognised for excellent reporting on science and scientific innovation

- Omeje who is from Nigeria and Makoni from Zimbabwe have made their nations proud

Nigerian Chikezie Omeje and Zimbabwean Munyaradzi Makoni have emerged winners of prestigious science journalism award in Ethiopia.

Omeje and Makoni were presented with the award during the Grand Challenges Annual meeting held in Addis- Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting had in attendance several scientists and policy makers who come together annually, promoting and creating solutions to global health problems.

A Twitter user identified as AAsciences shared the photo of the two winners holding their huge check of N1 million each. ICIR reports that Omeje's story on the mental injury inflicted on children by the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeastern part of Nigeria earned him the award.

It was gathered that Omeje is currently a data journalism student at the prestigious Columbia University, in New York.

Makoni, who is freelance journalist based in Cape Town, South Africa, won with his report on solar-tracking bracket for nomadic pregnant women in Kenya.

In a tweet shared by Omeje, he expressed gratitude and excitement over winning the prestigious award and making himself and nation proud.

Meanwhile, popular Nigerian makeup artist, Banke Meshida-Lawal, has gotten the EATOW Global Icon award for the year 2019 in an event that was held at Albright Mayfair, London on Friday, October 11.

She is the CEO of BMPRO Makeup, an outfit that has been known for their outstanding work in Africa, the United Kingdom and in other areas of the world.
