Kabba in Kogi state was on Tuesday, October 29 shut down as Governor Yahaya Bello and his deputy, Edward Onoja as took their campaign train to the town.
The governor who was excited to see the huge crowd that came to welcome him and his entourage, used the opportunity to sell his New Direction program to the people in the area.
Speaking at the rally, Governor Bello emphasized that a second term is important for him to finish the civil service reforms which will help Kogi save more funds and execute more meaningful projects for the people of the state.
He reminded the people of the citing of the Ejiba Rice milling factory in the area, stressing that they have benefitted most from his administration.
The governor thanked the people for their support over the last three and half years of his administration, noting that they had proven to be people of honesty and sincerity.
He said his administration had made several achievements in the region and the entire state particularly in infrastructure, security, agricultural development, youth empowerment and the creation of employment opportunities.
He, however, expressed optimism that his second term in office would further facilitate greater projects which would be of immense benefit particularly with a focus on human capital development.
Earlier, the governor paid homage to the traditional ruler of the area, the Obaro of Kabba, HRM Oba Solomon Owoniyi, in his palace.
He used the opportunity to canvass support for the election of Senator Smart Adeyemi, for the senatorial rerun election scheduled also for Saturday, November 16, same day with the election.
The governor urged the monarch and his subjects to look beyond local politics and participate more actively in national politics, saying it would be more beneficial to them.
According to him, Adeyemi was more qualified to offer a good representation for the people.
Responding, Obaro Owoniyi commended the governor for recently graded traditional stool in the region and expressed gratitude to him for his numerous strides in governance.
He assured the APC delegation that election in the area would be conducted peacefully, adding that no politician would turn Okun land into a theatre of war.
The governor thereafter proceeded to flag off a 10km Kabba-Ottu-Okedayo and 40km Kabba–Oke Ofun–Ayede–Iluke roads.
He assured the people of the area that the roads would benefit over 14 rural communities.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the APC in Kogi says the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is jittery ahead of the governorship election in the state.
The APC made the claims in a statement sent to journalists on Sunday, October 27 by its publicity secretary in Kogi state, Jibril Abu.
