Pope hails 14-year-old Nigerian saint Vivian Ogu

The head of the Catholic church, Pope Francis, on Sunday, October 27, praised the virtue of 14-year-old Vivian Ogu as one that is exemplary of a good Christian.

MSM reports that the pope, who was represented by Archbishop Guampetno Dal Toso, the international president of Pontifical Mission Societies, made this known at the Vivian Ogu Missionary Animation Centre in Benin city.

He said the 14-year-old showed that one can practice their faith without the fear of consequences, saying she laid her life down in trust of her faith.

It should be recalled that the young lady was sent to an early grave on November 15, 2009 when she was shot after she fought back at the armed robbers who wanted to r*pe her at her family house in the capital of Edo state.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, the archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, were among the prominent figures that praised the late teenager.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that some Catholic bishops on Saturday, October 26, approved a proposal that allows married men to receive ordination as priest in the Amazon region.

The proposal must be approved by Pope Francis before it could stand. This according to the same media, would be a big and significant change to the church’s age long traditions where only unmarried men are ordained as priests.

The Amazon region covers areas such as some parts of Peru, Suriname, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Columbia, French Guiana.

The proposal has tagged viri probati which refers to older Catholic men who have stable families, are respected in their communities, and already deacons in their respective churches.
