- Goodluck Jonathan has ruled out working with the APC in the next governorship election in Bayelsa
- Governorship election is holding in the state on November 16
- The former president said he would support the candidate of his party at the poll
Barely three weeks to the conduct of governorship election in Bayelsa state, former president Goodluck Jonathan has cleared air on his alleged romance with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Vanguard reports that the ex-president ruled out possibility of working for the APC candidate at the poll, saying he remains a frontline stakeholder and a father of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the country.
Legit.ng gathered that he has endorsed the candidate of the PDP, Senator Duoye Diri, for the November 16 governorship election in the state.
It was learnt that the endorsement came shortly after Jonathan met behind closed doors with governors elected on the platform of the party in Abuja on Friday, October 25.
He said: “How can I be working for the APC when I am a frontline stakeholder and a father of the PDP?”
The meeting was attended by Governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Darius Ishaku (Taraba) and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state.
Jonathan’s decision to clear the air was not unconnected with social media reports in recent times linking him with forming an alliance with the APC ahead of the November poll.
According to the newspaper, it was not clear, however, if the six governors facilitated the endorsement as it was alleged that Dickson frustrated the ambition of Jonathan’s preferred candidate for the plum job.
It would be be recalled that since his emergence as PDP governorship flag bearer, Diri had allegedly sought Jonathan’s blessings with little success.
But it was learnt that when the PDP governors mobilised to meet Jonathan and sought for his endorsement of Diri, the former president obliged.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Jonathan's ally and ex-managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Timi Alaibe, made prediction about the November 16, governorship election in the state.
