A report by the Nation indicates that a young Almajiri boy was reportedly beaten to death by a member of National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC) serving in Bebeji local government area of Kano state.
Legit.ng gathered that the police have barricaded the area to prevent irate mob from attacking the corps member.
It was learnt that the sad incident happened on the evening of Thursday, October 24, when the boy was said to have rushed to the corps members’ lodge to collect his share of fruits usually distributed among the children of the area.
According to the report, the deceased in his desperation to get its own share of the fruits, accidentally collided with the corps member.
The newspaper noted that the incident allegedly provoked the corps member, who descended on him by beating him to a state of coma, which allegedly led to his death.
The public relations officer of Bebeji transformation for change, Shehu Suleiman, who revealed details of the incident, said the policemen had blocked the area to prevent residents of the area from attacking the corps member.
In his reaction, the Kano state NYSC coordinator, Alhaji Ladan Baba, was said to have confirmed that the report had got to his desk.
He, however, disclosed that his officials proceeded to Bebeji on the morning of Friday, October 25, to further investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, called on the federal government to revive the Almajiri special school system, to address cases of street begging.
It was reported that Abubakar who is also the president-general, Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, made the call during a public lecture to mark Nigeria’s 59 Independence Anniversary on Friday, September 27 in Abuja.
