Gombe assembly asks Goje’s daughter nominated as commissioner to take a bow
- Senator Goje’s daughter, Hussaina Danjuma Goje, has been screened as one of the commissioner-nominees in Gombe state
- The state lawmakers, however, did not question Hussaina but asked her to take a bow and go after introducing herself
- According to the lawmakers, their decision is based on Hussaina’s professional background and her father’s contributions to the state
Hussaina Danjuma Goje, the daughter of former governor of Gombe state, Mohammed Danjuma Goje, has been screened alongside other commissioner-nominees named by Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya.
Daily Trust reports that the members of the Gombe state House of Assembly, however, did not question Hussaina but only asked her to take a bow and go.
The lawmakers reportedly simply asked her to take and bow after her introducing herself before the assembly.
The lawmakers reportedly accorded Hussaina the privilege because of her professional background and father’s contribution towards the development of the state.
Hussaina’s father is now a senator in the National Assembly representing Gombe Central.
Recall that Hussaina and 17 others were nominated by Governor Yahaya as commissioners and members of the state executive council.
The disclosure was made by Speaker Abubakar Sadiq Kurba in a letter read to the house during plenary on Wednesday, October 2.
Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo Waziri also made the list that was sent to the state House of Assembly. Jalo is Senator Goje’s son-in-law. He is married to Husseina’s elder sister.

Taking a bow and go
The tradition of taking a bow and go during the screening of ministerial and commissioner-nominees at the national and state assemblies has been recently criticised by Nigerians.
During the screening of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees by the Senate, many of the nominees were asked to take a bow and go.
The privilege was given to nominees who were once members of the national and state assemblies as a form of recognition of their efforts while they served as lawmakers.
However, many Nigerians are of the opinion that the tradition portrays the lawmakers as rubber stamp lawmakers who are not interested in the appropriate screening of the nominees to know those who are competent and those who are not.
