Andrew Odoh: Only Nigerian on World Golf Ranking list

It is really amazing how Nigerians are breaking new grounds in almost all fields of life around the world. Andrew Odoh is the only Nigerian citizen on the Official World Golf Ranking and has been praised as the country’s version of Tiger Woods.

The 36-year-old, based in South Africa, became a professional golfer in 2004, the year after he failed to enter the Professional Golfer’s Association (PGA) qualifying school in Ibadan.

Kobini reports that Odoh has won over 30 competitions in Nigeria and five outside the country. He said his brother, an amazing golfer inspired the love for the sport in him when he was young.

He, however, said that he learnt mostly by watching golfers play at the Military Cantonment Golf Club in Minna.

Two years ago, the Nigerian golfer was also the only person that was invited for the 2017 Kenya Open which held at the Muthaiga Gold Club in Nairobi. He hopes to become of the most sought-after players in the world.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Kenya’s top athlete, Brigid Kosgei, a holder of several records, has a very inspiring story that would stir anyone into action at any time.

Despite being a school dropout and mother of twins, the athlete did not allow those things to stop her as she said that her humble beginnings have always pushed her to achieve greater things.

Her coach, Eric Kimaiyo, said that her dedication, discipline, and competitive spirit has been a driving force for her.

It should be noted that she was brought up by a single mother in Elgeyo-Marakwet, a region in the Rift Valley, a place known to have Kenya’s top runners.

Like other runners before her, her love for running started well when she was in primary school, saying she covers 10km every day to avoid being late to school.
